The Canadian Express Entry is an online management system set up by Canada’s immigration sector and is used by the IRCC (that is, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada). The IRCC uses the Express Entry to manage applications from skilled workers that wish to immigrate into Canada.
If you are a skilled worker and you wish to immigrate into Canada, then Express Entry is for you. The application was introduced in 2015 and since then, lots of skilled individuals and families have been immigrating into Canada from all over the world.
Lots of people have become permanent residents of Canada through this Express Entry program and the numbers of admitted permanent residents is expected to increase over time.
The system of Express Entry is very competitive and prospective candidates are ranked based on their level of education, work experience, language proficiency, ages and so on.
Skilled individuals that apply can become permanent residents in just a few months.
How Does Canadian Express Entry work? How To Apply?
1. First, are you eligible?
Skilled workers that apply fall under three categories;
– The Federal Skilled Worker Class
– The Canadian experience class
– The Federal Skilled Trades Class
Candidates need to be eligible to one of the three categories stated above in order to enter the Express Entry pool. You can visit www.canada.ca to know what the three categories above entail and their respective requirements.
2. You need to create an Express Entry profile
This profile that you create serves as an EOI that is, Expression of Interest. After this profile has been created, then you submit to the pool of candidates. You will be ranked out of a total of 1,200 points and the ranking profile score is based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
CRS score can be improved through a number of ways. The higher the CRS score, the higher your chance of receiving an ITA i.e, Invitation To Apply. Provincial nominations for candidates and a valid job offer from a Canadian employer will boost a candidate’s total points.
3. Then you create a job bank profile
Though this step used to be compulsory but it became optional since 2017. Candidates that don’t have a job offer from a Canadian employer or a provincial nomination are to register at the Canada Job Bank. This is a public resource that is free to use that helps employers in Canada to pick workers on the Job Bank based on the skills they want.
4. You will receive an ITA (Invitation To Apply)
Once you have done all of the above, if you meet the requirements, you will receive an ITA (Invitation To Apply).
The IRCC at intervals, does Express Entry draws (usually every two weeks). During these draws, candidates that qualify above a particular rank are then sent an Invitation To Apply for Canadian permanent residency.
If an individual is not invited, their Express Entry profile will expire after 12 months. After that, they can apply with a new profile.
To improve your chances of being selected to receive ITA, you need to improve your CRS score as well as your Express Entry profile. You can wait to submit your new profile information after the former rejection. On the new profile you will create, you should work on increasing language scores, adding more work experience and so on.
